A Hen for Izzy Pippik by Aubrey Davis caught my eye the other day in my school library. I loved the green hues on the jacket created by the illustrator Marie Lafrance so I picked it up and read it that evening. It is the story of a sad little town in need of some hope. Hope that is unknowingly captured in an abandoned hen and a little girl whose character refuses to flounder. The joy and happiness that comes from doing what is right even when it seems unnecessary shines brightly in this happy story.
I am excited to meet Rocket, one of the characters in Tad Hills Rocket Writes a Story. I recently received an advertisement with Rocket's picture and became intrigued. He sounded like a character my students would enjoy. To my surprise I found, How Rocket Learned to Read at my public library as well. I am sure he will be a favorite of my four, five and sixers this year.

The Izzy book looks good, Betsy. I like the Rocket books, too, very fun for the young ones, and for support in writer's workshop. Thank you!
Rocket is very sweet isn't he? I love the partnership between the little bird and dog.
Oh I must get my hands on The Izzy book. Just looking at the cover, I'm hooked!
I can't take any more books out of the library because I racked up $12 in fees when my son had an accident in August. :-) I'm really, really bad with late fees.
